-
Your domain must be active. If it's expired, you need to renew it first.
-
You must be the current owner of the domain.
-
The person you're transferring it to must already be a Domain Manager for that domain in your Net2Secure account.
-
The domain can't be in the middle of another ownership verification process.
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Invite the New Owner
First, you need to give the new owner permission to manage the domain.
-
Log in to your Net2Secure Control Panel.
-
Go to the Domains Dashboard.
-
Select the domain you want to transfer.
-
Click on Permissions, then Invite Domain Manager.
-
Enter the new owner's name and email and send the invitation.
-
Make sure they accept the invitation to become a manager.
2. Start the Transfer
Once they are a manager, you can start the transfer.
-
In the Domains Dashboard, select the domain again.
-
Go to Permissions.
-
Click the three dots (...) next to the new manager's name.
-
Choose Transfer Domain Ownership.
-
You'll need to enter your password (and a 2-factor authentication code if you have that set up).
-
Click Send Confirmation Email.
3. Confirm the Transfer
-
You'll receive an email from Net2Secure asking you to confirm the transfer.
-
Open the email and click the link to start the transfer. The process won't move forward until you do this.
4. New Owner Completes the Transfer
-
The new owner will get a similar email.
-
They must click the link to Accept Domain Ownership.
-
They will be prompted to log in and confirm.
-
They will also need to confirm or add a payment method.
-
After they click Complete Ownership Transfer, both of you will get a final confirmation email.
What to Do After the Transfer
The new owner should immediately update the domain's contact information (WHOIS data), including the email and organization name. Changing this information might require both you and the new owner to verify the changes via email.
Why This Process Is Important
This process keeps your domain secure by ensuring that only approved people can take over ownership. It also helps with billing, so there's no confusion about who is paying for which domain.
