Transferring vs. Connecting Domains: What’s Right for You at Net2Secure?

Last updated August 11, 2025

Reading time: 3 minutes

As a leading web hosting and domain provider in India, Net2Secure empowers businesses of all sizes to manage their online presence efficiently. One of the most common questions we receive from customers is whether they should transfer or connect a domain they’ve purchased elsewhere. While both options allow you to use your custom domain with your website hosted on Net2Secure, the best choice depends on your specific needs.

In this guide, we’ll explain the key differences between transferring and connecting a domain, and help you decide which method is right for your business.

What is a Domain Transfer?

Transferring a domain means moving your domain registration from your current registrar (such as GoDaddy, Namecheap, or Google Domains) to Net2Secure. Once your domain is transferred, you can manage all your domain settings, billing, and DNS records directly from your Net2Secure control panel.

Benefits of transferring your domain to Net2Secure:

  • Simplified management: Keep your domain and hosting services in one place.

  • Centralized billing: Pay for everything in one convenient invoice.

  • Improved support: Our expert team can assist with both hosting and domain-related issues.

  • Advanced DNS management: Easily configure records for email, subdomains, and more from your Net2Secure dashboard.

What is Domain Connecting?

Connecting a domain allows you to keep your domain registered with another provider but point it to your Net2Secure-hosted website using DNS settings. You’ll update the DNS records (typically A and CNAME records) at your domain registrar to direct traffic to your Net2Secure server.

Reasons to connect a domain instead of transferring:

  • You may want to retain your existing registrar for specific services (e.g., email, WHOIS privacy).

  • You’re not ready to move everything to Net2Secure just yet.

  • Your domain isn’t eligible for transfer (e.g., recently registered or locked).
